HE WORD OF GOD AS RECORDED FOR US IN THE BIBLE 

Jesus claimed to be God. If He is God the Bible is true for He said so. We should first look to see if Jesus is God for if He is not, it makes no difference if the Bible is true.

[1 John 5:12] He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.Back

THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST (GOD) CONCERNING THE OLD TESTAMENT 

[Isaiah 61:1] The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,

[2] to proclaim the year of the LORD’S favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,

[Luke 4:21] and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

[28] All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this.

[John 5:39] You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,

[40] yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

[45] "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.

[46] If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.

[47] But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"

[Matthew 5:17] "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

[18] I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

[45] If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?"

[12:39] He answered, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

[40] For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

[41] The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.

[24:15] "So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel - let the reader understand -

[John 17:17] Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

[1:14] The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.Back

THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST (GOD) CONCERNING THE NEW TESTAMENT 

[14:16] And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever -

[17] the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

[20] On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

[25] "All this I have spoken while still with you.

[26] But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

[2:19] Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."

[20:30] Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.

[31] But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

[Luke 24:6] He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:

[7] ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’"

[8] Then they remembered his words.

[John 16:12] "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.

[13] But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

[14] He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.Back

THE TESTIMONY OF THE APOSTLES CONCERNING THE WORD OF GOD

[Acts 3:18] But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Christ would suffer.

[19] Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

[24] "Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have foretold these days.

[2 Peter 1:20] Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation.

[21] For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

[2 Timothy 3:16] All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

[17] so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

[1 Corinthians 15:3] For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

[Galations 1:11] I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up.

[12] I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

THE WORD OF GOD PROVES ITSELF [Hebrews 4:12] For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.Back

WE CAN TRUST THE WORD IN OUR LIVES 

[2 Timothy 3:16] All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

[17] so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

[John 8:31] To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

CHRIST'S CLAIMS ABOUT HIMSELF / EQUALITY WITH GOD 

[John 5:15] The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

A HEAVENLY ORIGIN 

[John 5:18] For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

[8:56] Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad."

[57] "You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!"

[58] "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"

[59] At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

[Exodus 3:13] Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?"

[14] God said to Moses, "I Am Who I Am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I Am has sent me to you.’"Back

THE ANSWER TO OUR HEART PROBLEMS 

[Matthew 11:28] "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

[John 6:35] Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

[8:12] When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

[10:9] I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.

[11:25] Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;

HE CLAIMED SINLESS PERFECTION 

[John 8:29] The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him."

[46] Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?

[Mark 14:61] But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"

[62] "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."

WHAT NEW TESTAMENT WRITERS CLAIMED ABOUT CHRIST 

[Matthew 1:22] All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:

[23] "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" - which means, "God with us."

[John 1:1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

[2] He was with God in the beginning.

[3] Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

[14] The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

[2 Peter 1:1] Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:

[Colossians 1:15] He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

[16] For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

[Philippians 2:6] Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

[7] but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

[8] And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!

[Hebrews 1:2] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

[3] The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.Back

EVIDENCES FOR THE DEITY OF CHRIST 

[John 5:39] You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,

[40] yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

[46] If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.

[Isaiah 9:6] For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.Back

MIRACULOUS SIGNS, EMPTY TOMB AND APPEARANCES 

[1 Corinthians 15:4] that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

[5] and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.

[6] After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

[7] Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,

[8] and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.Back

ASSURANCE OF SALVATION 

[John 10:28] I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.Back

CONFIDENCE IN THE WORD OF GOD 

[John 17:17] Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

PEACE IN OUR CIRCUMSTANCES

LOVE: THE POWER BEYOND EMOTION 

[John 13:34] "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

[Matthew 5:44] But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,Back

LOVE IS NOT A FEELING 

[1 Corinthians 13:4] Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

[5] It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

[6] Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

[7] It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

[8] Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

[Matthew 20:28] just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

[Philippians 2:3] Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

[4] Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.Back

WHAT IS OUR MOTIVATION FOR LOVING OTHERS? 

[1 John 4:19] We love because he first loved us.

[Ephesians 3:18] may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

[19] and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

[1 John 4:10] This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

[Colossians 2:13] When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,

[Ephesians 1:7] In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace

[Hebrews 10:14] because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

[Romans 8:1] Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,

[15] For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."

[Ephesians 2:4] But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,

[5] made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved.

[1:3] Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

[3:12] In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

[1 John 4:18] There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

[1 Corinthians 13:1] If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

[2] If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

[13] And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

[1 John 4:8] Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

[16] And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.Back

LOVE IS EMPOWERED THROUGH FAITH, AND SUSTAINED BY HOPE 

[1 Thessalonians 1:3] We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

[Philippians 1:6] being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

[1 Peter 1:22] Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.

[John 13:34] "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

[Romans 15:7] Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

[Ephesians 4:32] Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

[John 13:35] By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

[Ephesians 3:14] For this reason I kneel before the Father,

[15] from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name.

[20] Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

[21] to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

[Romans 12:9] Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

[1 Corinthians 13:13] And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.Back

WHAT IS A WILL, TESTAMENT, OR COVENANT? 

[9:16] In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it,

[17] because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living.Back

THE OLD COVENANT 

[Exodus 19:5] Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine,

[6] you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites."

[8] The people all responded together, "We will do everything the LORD has said." So Moses brought their answer back to the LORD.

[Hebrews 9:19] When Moses had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people.

[20] He said, "This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep."

[Exodus 32:4] He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, "These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt."

[Romans 7:10] I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death.

[Hebrews 8:7] For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.

[8] But God found fault with the people and said: "The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.

[Romans 7:7] What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet."

[8] But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead.

[3:20] Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

[7:12] So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.

[6:23] For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

[2 Corinthians 3:1] Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you?

[2] You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody.

[3] You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

[4] Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God.

[5] Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.

[6] He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant - not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

[7] Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was,

[8] will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?

[9] If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!

[10] For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory.

[11] And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

[12] Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.

[13] We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away.

[14] But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

[15] Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.

[16] But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

[17] Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

[Hebrews 7:18] The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless

THE OLD VS. THE NEW 

[Hebrews 10:1] The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming - not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.

[2] If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.

[3] But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins,

[4] because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

[5] Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me;

[6] with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.

[7] Then I said, ‘Here I am - it is written about me in the scroll - I have come to do your will, O God.’"

[8] First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made).

[9] Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second.

[10] And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

[11] Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

[12] But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.

[13] Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool,

[14] because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

[Hebrews 10:15] The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:

[16] "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds."

[17] Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more."

ENTERING GOD'S REST 

[Hebrews 4:9] There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;

CONCLUSION 

Jesus Christ laid down His life for you, so that He could give His life to you, so that He could live His life through you.
